Exploring Moab

I recently spent a long weekend exploring a few of the many natural wonders in Moab, Utah. On our first full day there, we hiked the Morning Glory Bridge Trail, located in the Grandstaff Canyon. The hike is about 5 miles roundtrip and follows the scenic sandstone canyon. A small stream flows though the canyon and there are several stream crossings – which the kids and dogs on the trail especially seemed to enjoy.

At the end of the trail, is the Morning Glory Natural Bridge, which spans 243 feet, making it the sixth longest natural rock span in the U.S. This was a stunning (and very popular) spot to sit, relax and have a snack before starting the return hike back to the car.

We also spent some time in Arches National Park. Though there is plenty to see from the car, such as the Three Gossips and Balanced Rock, many of the arches must be hiked to. We opted to hike the easy Devils Garden Trail to Landscape Arch. This arch is one of the world’s longest stone spans and is an awesome sight to see, with its long delicate looking arch of stone.

It was a quick weekend and I was sad to return home feeling like I only experienced a small taste of all that Moab has to offer. Next time, I hope to hike some of the many dinosaur track sites (my 4-year-old will love it), camp by the river and spend more time in Arches. I’m already checking the calendar to see when we can go!
