First Time Gardening!

This summer is my first attempt at REAL gardening.  My previous gardening efforts were limited to containers of herbs and tomato plants.  But I now have three raised beds and am SO excited to dig in!

Although I want to plant everything in my garden, I’m trying to start small.  I planted arugula, mixed lettuce, spinach and snow pea seeds early.  This is the first time I’ve ever planted seeds — tiny little rows for the tiny little seeds.  When the arugula first started poking through the soil I thought they were weeds and pulled a few up.  Then I realized they were all in a row  — Arugula!

Since planting the seeds,  I’ve added several varieties of tomato, bell peppers, jalapeno, zucchini, yellow squash, artichoke (my husband snuck this to our cart when I wasn’t looking), basil, thyme, and oregano.  Since these photos, I’ve added carrots, cucumbers, cilantro, Roma Tomatoes and marigolds.  I keep thinking that I have more room and can plant more, but I’m trying to follow the instructions for plant spacing.

If the wildlife don’t find my garden and eat everything, and we don’t get a freak snowstorm I should have a bumper crop of goodies.  I’ll be sure to report back later this summer.
