Lunch with Governor Hickenlooper – Recap

A number of Harbor clients, advisors and staff attended the recent Boulder Chamber lunch highlighting our Governor, John Hickenlooper.

The governor spoke about balancing revenue shortfalls and cuts to education, expanding on innovation-related initiatives, and building a policy model from a ‘bottom up’ approach. The Bottom-Up Economic Plan Development Initiative is designed so all 64 Colorado counties participate in discussions about their economic future, the findings will then be incorporated into 14 regional plans. From there, these efforts will be the basis for the statewide economic development plan.

Hickenlooper outlined the importance of branding Colorado beyond our well-recognized outdoor lifestyle, sporting opportunities and beautiful environment to include good education opportunities, a beneficial business climate and “the place that does things differently.” He also discussed delays on FasTracks/U.S. 36 initiatives, his opinion on SmartGrid and updates for ConocoPhillips/ACE Park commitments.

All in attendance agreed that the topics were well presented, timely and of interest to citizens and business owners alike.
